CultureHub Resident Artist Jeffrey Alan Scudder performs two new pieces, one for AC OS and one for macOS — the same instrument on opposite ends of a computer's life, one on machines pulled back from e-waste and one on machines bought new.
Note(s)pat(ial) Native boots six surplus grade-school laptops into AC OS, the operating system Scudder makes; each machine holds one channel of the studio's surround system, and from a live control surface he turns the whole field through the room, changes its speed, and hands voices between machines. The piece is grown live from a fixed 1:41 recording and can go differently every time it is played.
The MacNeoPolitan Trio is newer — three MacBook Neos, indigo, citrus, and blush, each played through Menu Band, the piano that lives in the menu bar beside the clock and the battery. A guest set between the two will be announced. The evening closes with a conversation, and the instruments will stay on for the room to play.
