How We Danced Our Way Back Home
January 12–13, 2024
Presented by CultureHub
This interdisciplinary VR performance ritual follows a group of masqueraders through the Atlantic on an oceanic journey to memorialize the lives lost during the Middle Passage.
How We Danced Our Way Back Home emerges from the collaborative efforts of Ayodamola Tanimowo Okunseinde, Amir Denzel Hall, André M. Zachery and the Renegade Performance group. Drawing inspiration from masquerade traditions from Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and across the African diaspora, the performance manifests as a technoritualist experience emphasizing the importance of remembering the enduring legacy of the trans-atlantic trade in enslaved Africans.
How We Danced Our Way Back Home was developed in the CultureHub Residency Program.
