We Talked a Door into Being is an installation by CultureHub Resident Artist Hu Di featuring three AI-driven puppets. They wait for their creator to return, hoping one day to venture outside and see the real world. As they talk and move, they seek approval, compete for attention, and withdraw from one another, imagining a world beyond the space they inhabit.
Each character has a different inner drive shaping how it seeks affection and protects itself. The artist translates these inner drives into instructions for the language-model agents, which respond to the ongoing conversation rather than follow a fixed script. As they interact, these inner drives give rise to different inter-agent dynamics.
Visitors are invited to join the conversation and experience the characters’ evolving relationships through dialogue, voices, and movement.
This project is supported within the CultureHub Residency program.
