The computer mouse was invented by Doug Engelbart as a small part of a larger whole: the “oN-Line System.” Presented to the public in what later became known as “The Mother of All Demos,” the “oN-Line System” was responsible for some of the earliest versions of hyperlinks, multiple windows, real-time cross-computer collaboration, and finally, the use of a mouse.

Channeling Engelbart’s energy, The Dada of All Demos will take The Mother of All Demos as its departure. Participants will engage in a collective scrolling performance lecture performed by Emma Rae Bruml Norton. The performance will seek to re-orient us to something which already exists in the world, something which we always already have a relationship to: the computer mouse.

Attendees will meet online at a custom website on their personal computers where they will watch the livestreamed lecture. Optionally, attendees can also join through a smart phone to collectively scroll through a series of images related to the computer mouse's history.

Emma Rae Bruml Norton is a CultureHub Resident Artist (2020-2021). Learn more about her work in the residency program here
