Rooted in nomadic philosophies and art, Compound Rite: Utopia or Oblivion works with dance, moving image, craft and robotic choreographic sculpture. CultureHub Resident Artist NiNi Dongnier reimagines a contemporary ritual that establishes a new relationship with The Rite of Spring (Stravinsky, 1913) that transcends the Rite’s themes of dualism and fear, seeking a spring in a post-metaphysical world.
“An order is sensed but always tenuous.
A world in disorder, objects and bodies linked by the absurd logic of chaos and
creation.
A continuous spiral constitutes by infinite spheres rising slowly then falling
transiently.
I invite you to slow down the motion of perception, that is to feel.”
Within the early stage of this multi-modal, multimedia performance making. We will share outputs from this weeklong exploration, which include:
Improvisational techniques and score generated movement materials.
Material that extended from the textural feeling body and its constructions.
Research on formal language of moving image, digital objects, and topography around eight-thousand-miles frontier of Inner Mongolia.
Selected text from R. Buckminster Fuller and Albert Camus.
